A pair of display bases, roughly cubic in shape, made of wood and entirely clad on all four sides in hand-painted paper imitating marble—featuring deep green and brown tones streaked with irregular reddish veining.
Each face is framed by a molded wooden border finished with *mecca* gilding, while the top surface is covered in a different painted paper featuring a more uniform and understated design.
The handcrafted construction—deliberately simple and slightly irregular—retains a beautiful patina from use and bears witness to the bases’ original purpose: displaying and showcasing small art objects or decorative artifacts.
Italy, second half of the 18th century.
Materials: wood, hand-painted paper, and *mecca* gilding.
Dimensions: approx. 11 × 11 × 10.5 cm (h).
