Art Nouveau Silver Milk Jug

This 84-zolotniki silver milk jug features a slightly flared body with a wavy rim and an angular spout. The sinuous, vertical handle is decorated with a linear burin engraving of stylized floral motifs and Art Nouveau vegetal scrolls, rendered with a subtle, calligraphic touch. The interior is gold-plated (vermeil), typical of shapes designed for serving liquids.
Imperial Russia;  late 19th – early 20th century (before 1908).

Marks: Fineness 84, kokoshnik with a left-facing profile (period 1896–1908) and Cyrillic factory mark  “ИФС” (IFS) attributable to the manufacture of Ivan Fyodorovich Sapogov, active in Moscow between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His most documented production dates from 1899 to 1908, a period in which his works often bear the inspector mark Ivan Lebedkin “ИЛ” (IL).
